Duplex Operation

The circuits previously considered provide single, or simplex, operation, that is, a system that can be operated in only one direction at a time. Telegraph systems are in wide use, however, that provide duplex operation;2,6,7,8 that is, simultaneous operation of a channel in opposite directions is possible with full-duplex operation.2 When a duplex system is arranged for half-duplex operation, a telegraph channel may be operated in either direction at a time, but not in both directions simultaneously.2
