Theorem 1:
THEOREM 1 f is continuous at c if and only if limx→c f(x) = f(c). As an application, we have a set of rules for combining continuous functions. They can be proved either by the corresponding rules for limits (Table 3.3.1 in Section 3.3) or by computing standard parts.
