Continuity in Terms of a Dependent Variable

In terms of a dependent variable y = f(x), the definition of continuity takes the following form, where

Δy = f(c + Δx) - f(c).

y is continuous at x = c if:

(i) y is defined at x = c.

(ii) Whenever Δx is infinitesimal, Δy is infinitesimal.
