Example 2: Vector Components

Let A be the vector with components - 4 and 1, and let P be the point (1,2). Find Q so that 10_vectors-20.gif represents A.

Q has the x-coordinate 1 + ( -4) = -3 and the y-coordinate 2 + 1 = 3. Thus Q = ( - 3, 3), as shown in Figure 10.1.4.
