Normal Vector Of a Plane

The vector product can sometimes be used to find a normal vector of a plane.

COROLLARY

If C and D are two nonparallel direction vectors of a plane p, then C × D is a normal vector of p.

PROOF

p has some normal vector N. N is perpendicular to both C and D, and hence parallel to C × D, so C × D is a normal vector of p.
