Example 1: Second Partial Derivatives

Find the four second partial derivatives of

z = ex sin y + xy2.

Notice that in this example the two mixed second partials ∂2z/∂y∂x and ∂2z/∂x ∂y are equal. The following theorem shows that it is not just a coincidence.
