Find the general solution of

y" - ω2y = 0, ω ≠ 0.

Step 1

The characteristic polynomial is

z2 - ω2.

It has two real roots,

z = ω and z = -ω.

Step 2

The general solution is

y = Aeωt + Be-ωt,

where ω is constant.
