Cadmium Sulfide

Cadmium sulfide (CdS) is a yellow compound which is formed by introducing H2S into an alcalic cadmium salt solution. CdS is used by painters ("cadmium yellow") and in photo resistors (due to its photo-resistive effect).

CdS is found in nature as the mineral Greenockite, an hexagonal, orange crystal with specific gravity of 4.7 and Mohs hardness of 3.8.
