Joseph Henry was an American physicist, and discovered electromagnetic self-induction, even before Faraday. However, he allowed Faraday to take the credit as, according to tradition, the one who publishes his ideas first lays claim to the discovery. By 1928, he had already produced strong magnets by using multi-layered coils made from insulated wire.
