Drum Controllers

Drum controllers, like that in Fig. 15-4, are used on electric passenger coaches, cranes, hoists, dredges, etc., where extreme ruggedness must be combined with great current-carrying capacity. They are frequently provided with vertical operating handles geared to the drum, so that the movements of the operator's hand may more naturally be in the direction in which the controlled device, such as a dredge, is intended to move.
