Gemini 6 photograph of a stratocumulus cloud vortex over the Canary Islands on Earth. Tenerife is at the upper left. These vortices are formed when northeast winds (north is up) blow over the islands and are swirled into chains of eddies. The center eddy in this image is 100 km from Tenerife and the eye is 21 km wide. (Gemini 6A, S65-63149)
