Metallic Rectifiers

Metallic rectifiers consist essentially of a disk or plate of metal on which is formed, or placed, a layer of some suitable semiconducting material. These disks are mounted in series or in parallel, or in series-parallel combinations, until a unit of the desired current and voltage ratings is obtained. They are sometimes called dry-disk rectifiers and barrier-layer rectifiers. They are of several types, as follows:
