Frequency Multipliers

If the parallel output circuit of a tube in class C is tuned to one of the harmonics, instead of the fundamental, a frequency multiplier results; usually these are frequency doublers and frequency triplers. If the harmonics, and not the fundamental, are to be selected, the tube should be operated so that the desired harmonic is large. An approximate rule is that the plate-current angle of flow θp for a frequency multiplier should be

where n is the ratio of the desired output frequency to the grid-driving frequency. The power output is about 1/n that obtained at the fundamental frequency.
