A function f is said to be constant on an interval I if:

f(x1) = f(x2) far all x1, x2 in I.

f is increasing on I if:

f(x1) < f(x2) whenever x1 < x2 in I.

f is decreasing on I if:

f(x1) > f(x2) whenever x1 < x2 in I.
