The product of power and time is energy. If the power in a resistance is 1 kilowatt and the time of use is 1 hour, the energy used is 1 kilowatt-hour (kw-hr). The heat energy required to raise the temperature of 1 Ib of water 1 deg F is called the British Thermal Unit (Btu). The Btu is approximately equal to 778 ft-lb. Some useful conversion equivalents follow:
