Effect of Fuse or Circuit Breaker in Middle Wire

A fuse or a circuit breaker should not be used in the middle wire of a three-wire single-phase circuit, because the opening of the middle wire with the outside wires closed would put the two parts of the load in series between the outside wires. If the loads were not well balanced, the difference in voltages resulting across them might be even greater than that found in Example 3-7 and might cause serious injury to load equipment,
