Circuit With Resistance Only

In Fig. 8-9 is shown a circuit containing only a resistance R. If the circuit is closed when the voltage is zero, as at t0, the current will be zero at that instant and will then rise sinusoidally in phase with v in accordance with Ohm's Law. Inasmuch as the only storage of energy is that in the resistor in the form of heat, there will be no current transient. In fact, there will be no transient, regardless of the time of closure, because there is no inductive or capacitive energy storage.
