Gas

Author: E.E. Kimberly

The gas given off by a lead-acid battery is hydrogen and is highly explosive when properly mixed with air. Flames or glowing cigarettes or cigars should not be brought near the battery during the charging period or shortly afterward. Care should be taken to avoid disrupting the charging circuit near the charging battery, lest the escaping gas be ignited by the spark.
