The Earth
Gulf Coast Of Texas And Louisiana

Photograph of the Gulf Coast of Texas and Louisiana taken through the open hatch of Gemini 11 in the early morning. Air pollution plumes from smokestacks can be seen in Houston, Texas City, Freeport, and Port Arthur in Texas and Lake Charles, Baton Rouge, and Bogalusa in Louisiana. The plumes in the Houston area, at center, move northeastward at lower levels and then are carried southward by upper level winds. The view is to the northeast. Galveston Bay, at the center of the image, is about 50 km long. (Gemini 11, S66-54560)
