'Constant-k' Filter

Constant-k filters are sometimes used by themselves, and sometimes as a basis for the design of the other types. In the constant-k filter, Z1 and Z2 are inverse elements; that is, if Z1 of Fig, 24 consists of inductance, then Z2 must consist of capacitance. That is,

where k is a constant independent of frequency. Because of the fact that the other filters are derived from it, the constant-k filter is known as a "prototype."
